Google Messages is rolling out a tweaked “New chat” page to let you immediately check which contacts have RCS enabled.
After tapping the “Start chat” FAB (floating action button) in the bottom-right corner, you’re now taken to a “New chat” page. This list of all your contacts was previously titled “New conversation.” The term “chat” is more closely aligned with RCS.
The big change here is how Google now highlights contacts that have “RCS” enabled with a badge at the right-hand side. Additionally, the number is further emphasized with Dynamic Color theming, while SMS/MMS conversations just have black or white text depending on the system theme.
Old vs. new
Previously, you’d have to go ahead and tap the number to see if it says “Text message” or “RCS message” in the bottom text field. This update saves you a step, and lets you more effectively take a straw poll of RCS adoption in your family/friend group.
This started more widely rolling out to beta users (version 20250527_01_RC00) of Google Messages over the past few days.

Go to the Trending Now tab on Google Trends to discover hot topics that are trending at the moment.
Peruse the daily search trends and realtime search trends to see if there is anything of consequence that you can use in your content marketing efforts.
These timely trends will be useful for finding quick topics for your social media content – particularly on TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
You can also click on each topic to get the top trending news articles. Share relevant articles directly, or create similar content as it relates to your business to gain traction on your social media platforms.
Google Trends can help you find new keyword opportunities that you may not have thought to go after. From searching current trends to deep diving into the related queries for your current topics, there are a lot of ways that you can do this.
The best way to get started is to take your search to the Explore page again.
This time, we’ll search the Books & Literature category over the past 12 months to see what topics have had high interest.
It’s interesting that “chatgpt” is a top-trending search query for this industry. It might be worth exploring further to see what kinds of questions people are asking about ChatGPT as it relates to books and literature and if there are some new topics we can address to drive new traffic to our platforms.
One way to dig deeper into this is to conduct another search in the Explore tab.
With our same settings – United States, Past 12 months, Books & Literature, Web Search – we’re going to type “chatgpt” as one of our search terms.
When we scroll down to Related queries under this new search, we can see actual search queries that relate to this topic within our industry.
Some new topics that we found include “chatgpt essay” and “chatgpt writing.”
To take our search one step further, we’ll go to a keyword research tool like AnswerThePublic to see what questions people ask about “chatgpt writing.” This will help us identify new content topics for blog articles and social media posts.
Now, we can browse through this list of questions for some great new ideas to fuel our content marketing efforts.
Conduct your searches like this and see what topics are cropping up that you haven’t placed much emphasis on yet.
As you plan your content calendar, take your topics to Google Trends. Look at the seasonality of your topics to determine the best time to publish.
Let’s take corn mazes for example. Peak season for corn mazes is in October every year, but if we look at Google Trends, we can see that interest for corn mazes starts to grow in August, increases rapidly in September, and peaks at the beginning of October.
With that information, you should be putting out corn maze related content starting in August when interest is accumulating. You don’t want to wait until people have already decided which corn mazes they’re going to for the season.
You can also compare specific topics, like we did with our competitor research, to see which ones garner more interest.
Let’s say you have several attractions that you offer and you’re trying to decide which area to push the most focus to. In our search, we compared corn mazes, haunted houses, and pumpkin patches to find that people are most interested in pumpkin patches by a long shot.
Google Trends contains some awesome features for conducting market research. You can search for popular industry topics as well as their seasonality.
The best way to search for popular industry topics is to go to the Explore section of Google Trends.
Then, select the region and timeframe you want to explore, as well as the category for your industry. For example, we’ll search the United States over the past 12 months in the Computer & Electronics industry.
From there, Google Trends will provide trending topics and search queries according to your search.
To discover the seasonality of your topics, enter a specific search term and expand the time range to several years.
Sticking with the Computer & Electronics industry, we’ll search the seasonal trends of “Nintendo Switch” over the past five years.
You can see that the search trends for Nintendo Switch increase around the holidays each year.
Use this kind of seasonal trend data to plan for high sales seasons. During those times, push out more advertising and content around popular services or products.
Competitor research is crucial for SEO efforts. It’s important to understand how your competitors are doing, and how you compare. This data can help you make informed decisions about your SEO strategy.
Take your competitor research to the Explore section of Google Trends. Enter your company or brand name and up to four competitors.
We’ll do a quick comparison between Playstation and Xbox over the last year.
We can see that Xbox generates a lot more interest on Google than Playstation does, but they follow similar trend lines.
Seeing a comparison like this can help you determine if you need to generate more interest for your brand. If the interest in your brand is significantly less than your close competitors, that could be an indicator that you need to generate more brand awareness.
If you scroll down further in Google Trends when you perform this competitor comparison, you’ll also see top search for your brand under Related Queries. These topics can help you plan your content around things that people are already interested in so you can continue to grow the interest in your brand.
Your SEO strategy should have a big emphasis on creating new content. But it can be difficult to continuously come up with new and interesting topics off the top of your head.
Use Google Trends to help you identify new topics for clustering that you can link back to your pillar content.
To do this, start by entering the pillar topic that you’re trying to grow into Google Trends.
We’ll use landscaping in this example.
After you type in your topic, scroll down to the Related topics and Related queries section to see other similar topics that people are interested in.
If you sort Related queries by Rising, you can identify new topics that are currently rising in popularity.
While a few of these phrases are companies, we can see that the third most popular rising query is “small backyard fire pit ideas landscaping.” That could be a great topic to write a blog article about and link back to a pillar page for landscaping.
Use this tactic to create your content map for each pillar page on your website. Identify several new topics for each pillar topic, check out their seasonality, and use that to drive your content calendar.
Google Trends has the capability to give us further insights into the intent of a user’s search. We can use its search types filter to help us with this.
There are a couple different ways you can use this.
First, you can identify the type of search that you want to generate more content for – web, image, news, Google Shopping, or YouTube – and then find new topics from there.
For example, let’s change the search type to Google Shopping and update the category to our industry – we’ll use Computers & Electronics. Now, we can see some of the top searches people made over the past 12 months for specific products in the Google Shopping search.
This can help you identify product pages that you can enhance the content for or push additional content and link building efforts towards.
The second way we can utilize search types is by typing in one of the main content topics we’re trying to grow and checking it out with each search type.
If we look at the interest for “nintendo switch” on web search vs YouTube search, we can see that it has a more steady trend on Youtube than web searches. That could tell us that we should be putting out more video content for this topic.
Newsjacking is a concept where you take advantage of a well-known news event’s popularity by blasting your offerings in ads surrounding the event.
For example, if you are a fashion brand, you might take advantage of Fashion Week and the Met Gala. These high-profile events have a major emphasis on fashion. Newsjacking these events would be to run ads during the event to promote your offerings. Depending on the size of your brand, you might consider running ads on the major networks and streaming services covering those events.
You can use Google Trends to track news and events relevant to your brand.

Google Trends can help you troubleshoot why your traffic might be dropping or increasing suddenly.
Do you have a specific topic where traffic has just dropped off? Or maybe one of your blog topics has blown up recently.
Look up that topic on Google Trends over the period of time that your traffic changes have occurred to see if there is any correlation in user interest and your traffic changes.
Let’s say we’re a tech company and have received a ton of traffic to our ChatGPT-related articles over the past few months.
If we conduct a search for this topic in Google Trends, we can see that this topic has received a lot of interest in Google searches. That is likely contributing to our increase in traffic.
Another good example of this could be a diet or fitness trend. If you have a health and wellness website that covers several different diet plans, and all of a sudden a blog for a specific diet takes off, check Google Trends to see if it is suddenly growing in popularity.
That can also be a good indicator that you should produce some more content around that topic.
On the other side of this, if you find that your traffic is dropping off for a certain topic, and user interest is trending the same way, then you may need to find other areas to focus your content marketing efforts.
Don’t limit your SEO and content marketing efforts to the same things you’ve always done. Look for new opportunities like those that Google Trends can offer.

Survey shows how AI is transforming ecommerce workflows with meaningful gains in content generation, conversion optimization, and SEO
Aleyda Solis’ SEOFOMO published a survey of ecommerce owners and SEOs that indicates a wide range of uses of AI, reflecting popular SEO tactics and novel ways to increase productivity, but also reveals that a significant number of the respondents have yet to fully adopt the technology because they are still figuring out how it best fits into their workflow. Very few of the survey respondents said they were not considering AI.
The survey responses showed that there are five popular category uses for AI:
The survey respondents used AI for important reasons like product listing and descriptions, as well as for scaling meta descriptions, titles, and alt text. Other uses include creating content outlines, grammar checks and other assistive uses of AI.
But some also used it for blog content, landing pages, and for generating FAQ content. There’s no details of how extensively AI was used for blog content but a case could be made against using it for fully generating main content with AI (if that’s how some people are using it) because of Google’s recent cautionary guidance about extensive use of AI for main content.
Google’s Danny Sullivan at the recent Search Central NYC event cautioned about low effort content lacking in originality.
The other reported uses of AI was for grammar checking and clarity which are excellent ways to use AI. Care should be used even for these purposes because AI has a style that can get injected into the content even for something as simple as checking for grammar.
Another interesting use of AI is for revising content so that it matches a company’s “brand voice” which is checking for word choices, tone, and even sentence structure.
Lastly, the ecommerce survey respondents reported using AI for brainstorming content ideas which is another excellent way to use AI.
The part about keyword analysis is interesting because the report lists keyword research and clustering as one of the uses. Clustering keywords according to similarity is a good practice because it’s somewhat repetitive and spammy to write pages of content about related things, one page for each keyword phrase when one strong page that represents the entire topic is enough.
Focusing on keywords for SEO has been around longer than Google, and even Google itself has evolved from using keywords as a way to understand content to also incorporating an understanding of queries and content as topics.This is seen in the fact that Google uses core topicality systems as part of its ranking algorithm. So it’s somewhat curious that topicality research wasn’t mentioned as one of the uses, unless keyword clustering is considered part of that. Nevertheless, data analysis is a great use of AI.
Technical SEO is a fantastic application of AI because that’s all about automating repetitive SEO tasks but also for assisting on making decisions about what to do. There’s lots of ways to do this, including by uploading a set of guidelines and/or charts and asking AI to analyze for specific things. Apps like Screaming Frog allow integration with OpenAI, so it’s leaving money and time on the table to not be investigating all the ways AI can integrate with tools as well as just asking it to analyze data.https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/tutorials/how-to-crawl-with-chatgpt/
For example, one of the uses reported in the survey was for generating an internal linking strategy.

What was surprising is the amount of SEOs that are not using AI in a meaningful way. 31% of respondents said they are not using AI but are planning to, 3% of the survey respondents were digging their heels into the ground and flatly refusing to use AI in any way, while an additional 4% answered that they weren’t sure.
That makes a full 37% that aren’t using AI in any meaningful way. Looked at another way, 31% of respondents were getting ready to adopt AI into their workflow. Many managed WordPress hosting companies are integrating AI into their WordPress builder workflow as are some WordPress builders. AI can be integrated via WordPress SEO plugins as well. Wix has already integrated AI into their customer workflow through their proprietary Astro chatbot and companies like Shopify are also planning meaningful and useful ways to integrate AI.
The SEOFOMO survey makes it clear that AI is a significant part of the SEO and ecommerce workflow. Those who don’t use AI shouldn’t feel like they have to. But if you’re unsure how to integrate it, one way to think about it is to ask: what kinds of tasks would you hand off to an intern? Those are the kinds of tasks that AI excels at, enabling one worker to produce at a level five times greater than they could without using AI.

LinkedIn, for example, uses a knowledge graph to structure and interconnect data about its members, jobs, titles, and other entities. It uses its knowledge graph to enhance its recommendation systems, search features, and other products.
Google’s knowledge graph is another well-known knowledge graph that powers knowledge panels and our modern-day search experience.
In recent years, content knowledge graphs, in particular, have become increasingly popular within the marketing industry due to the rise of semantic SEO and AI-driven search experiences.
A content knowledge graph is a specialized type of knowledge graph.
It is a structured, reusable data layer of the entities on your website, their attributes, and their relationship with other entities on your website and beyond.
In a content knowledge graph, the entities on your website and their relationships can be defined using a standardized vocabulary like Schema.org and expressed as Resource Description Framework (RDF) triples.
RDF triples are represented as “subject-predicate-object” statements, and they illustrate how an entity (subject) is related to another entity or a simple value (object) through a specific property (predicate).
For example, I, Martha van Berkel, work for Schema App. This is stated in plain text on our website, and we can use Schema.org to express this in JSON-LD, which allows machines to understand RDF statements about entities.
Your website content is filled with entities that are related to each other.
When you use Schema Markup to describe the entities on your site and their relationships to other entities, you essentially express them as RDF triples that form your content knowledge graph.
Sure, we might be simplifying the process a little, as there are a few more steps to creating a content knowledge graph.
But before you start building a content knowledge graph, you should understand why you’re building one and how your team can benefit from it.
Over the past few years, search engines have shifted from lexical to semantic search. This means less matching of keywords and more matching of relevant entities.
This semantic understanding is even more beneficial in the age of AI-driven search engines like Gemini, SearchGPT, and others.
Your content knowledge graph showcases all the relationships between the entities on your website and across the web, which provides search engines with greater context and understanding of topics and entities mentioned on your website.
You can also connect the entities within your content knowledge graph with known entities found in external authoritative knowledge bases like Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Google’s Knowledge Graph.
This is known as entity linking, and it can add even more context to the entities mentioned on your site, further disambiguating them.
Your content knowledge graph ultimately enables search engines to explicitly understand the relevance of your content to a user’s search query, leading to more precise and useful search results for users and qualified traffic for your organization.
Beyond SEO, content knowledge graphs are also crucial for improving AI performance. As businesses adopt more AI technologies like AI chatbots, combatting AI hallucination is now a key factor to success.
While large language models (LLMs) can use patterns and probabilities to generate answers, they lack the ability to fact-check, resulting in erroneous or speculative answers.
Content knowledge graphs, on the other hand, are built from reliable data sources like your website, ensuring the credibility and accuracy of the information.
This means that the content knowledge graph you’ve built to drive SEO can also be reused to ground LLMs in structured, verified, domain-specific knowledge, reducing the risk of hallucinations.
Content knowledge graphs are rooted in factual information about entities related to your organization, making them a great data source for content insights.
High-quality content is one of the cornerstones of great SEO. However, content marketers are often challenged with figuring out where the gaps are in their existing content about the entities and topics they want to drive traffic for.
Content knowledge graphs have the ability to provide content teams with a holistic view of their entities to get useful insights to inform their content strategy. Let’s dive deeper.
Traditionally, content marketing teams would manually audit or use a spreadsheet or relational database (tables, rows, and columns) to manage their content. The issue with a relational database is its lack of semantic meaning.
For example, a table could capture the title, URL, author, meta description, word count, and topic of an article. However, it cannot capture entities mentioned in a plain-text article.
If you want to know which pages on your website currently mention an old product you no longer provide, identifying these pages is hard and very manual.
Content knowledge graphs, on the other hand, provide a multi-dimensional categorization system for your content.
When built using the Schema.org vocabulary, the detailed types and properties enable you to capture the connections between different content pieces based on entities and taxonomy.
For example, a blog post on your website would likely show up on your content knowledge graph as a BlogPosting with properties like author, publisher, mentions, datePublished, dateModified, audience, citations, and more.
These properties connect your blog article (an entity) to other entities you’ve defined on your site. The author of a specific article is a Person who you might have defined on an Author page.
Your article might mention a product or service that you’ve defined on other pages on your site.
For marketing teams that have to manage large volumes of content, structuring your content into a content knowledge graph can give you a more holistic view of your content and entities.
You can easily perform a content audit to find out what exists on your website without manually auditing the site or updating a spreadsheet.
This, in return, enables you to perform content analysis with ease and get deeper insights into your content.
With a holistic view provided by your content knowledge graph, you can easily audit your content and entities to identify gaps and opportunities to improve your content strategy.
Example 1: You want to strengthen your E-E-A-T for specific authors on your site. Your content knowledge graph will showcase:
This unified view can provide your team with a broad overview of this author and identify content opportunities to improve the author’s topical authority on your site.
Example 2: Your organization wants to remove all mentions of COVID-19 protocols from your website.
You can query your content knowledge graph to identify past content that mentions the topic “COVID-19” and assess the relevance and necessity of each mention before removing it from your content.
This targeted approach can enable your team to refine their content without investing too much time in manual reviews.
Since content knowledge graphs built using Schema.org are expressed as RDF triples, you can use the query language SPARQL to find out which pages a specific entity is mentioned in or how much content you have on a specific entity or topic.
This will help your team answer strategic questions such as:

When Sarah Cieslinski and JJ Follano launched their sustainable products marketplace in 2018, they had a modest ambition. “I just told Sarah, like, ‘Hey, if you can get a hundred orders a month, that would be like a home run,’ JJ recalls. Neither founder anticipated that within a year, they would transform their small eco-friendly shop into a multimillion-dollar business.
The Zero Waste Store grew from $6,000 in sales in year one to $2 million in sales the second, while continuing to launch unique products as well as house the best sustainable options on the market.
The catalyst for this remarkable growth was Sarah and JJ’s strategic approach to search engine optimization (SEO) that perfectly positioned the brand to capture existing market demand. Read through the steps that took Zero Waste Store to the next level and allowed it to reach a wider audience.
Zero Waste Store began its life under a different name: Earthy Shop. While the brand’s original name aligned with its sustainability mission, JJ—who brought 10 years of marketing experience to the partnership—noticed a significant opportunity through his SEO research.
“I’ve been very heavily integrated with Google ads and search engine optimization,” JJ says. “I saw a trend of a lot of people looking for zero waste products particularly. And I come to find out that ‘zero waste store,’ that domain name, was not being used.”
This wasn’t just any available domain. JJ discovered that the term “zero waste store” and its variations were being searched approximately 10,000 to 15,000 times per month. People online were actively looking for the exact offering he and Sarah had, just using different terminology than their original brand name. “I said, ‘Well, we just started, we’re about a few months in, and I think there’s a really strong play here. So why don’t we rebrand as Zero Waste Store?’” JJ says.
The pair quickly made the decision to rebrand and saw results immediately. “We went from initially doing a few hundred orders a month at most to doing over a million dollars in sales within the first year,” JJ says. This single SEO-driven decision accelerated their growth trajectory dramatically.
If not handled properly, rebranding can harm SEO performance. Zero Waste Store avoided this pitfall through careful preparation and proper tech implementation.
“When you rebrand, a lot of brands aren’t redirecting the URLs from the old domain to the new one, and you actually get a lot of dead links in Google search,” JJ says. “You could potentially lose a lot of the traffic that you’ve gained from your prior branding.”
JJ implemented comprehensive redirects to ensure that all the SEO equity they’d built already with Earthy Shop transferred smoothly to their new Zero Waste Store domain. This technical attention to detail preserved their existing rankings while positioning them to capture the high-volume “zero waste” searches.
In addition to the new domain name, Zero Waste Store strategically aligns its entire product catalog and content with online search patterns in sustainability trends.
“We spent about six months researching and testing,” Sarah says of their initial product selection process. “I tested hundreds of products and we launched with our shampoo and conditioner bars, which today are still our number one bestselling product,” she says.

Sarah’s research isn’t just about finding eco-friendly products—it’s also paired with JJ identifying items with strong search volume that could draw organic traffic. This strategy focuses on products with established search demand, creating immediate visibility and driving traffic to the site.
“In today’s world of SEO, content is king and blogging is the most important thing. You could use a tool called Semrush and you could really start pulling keywords and topic ideas of what people are searching for,” JJ says. The blog posts help them get a jumpstart on organic search engine rankings, which also drives traffic to the site.
SEO insights didn’t just inform Zero Waste Store’s marketing—they shaped the entire business model, including the development of the brand’s own “Essentials” product line.
When JJ noticed search trends for products typically found at a higher price point, he saw an opportunity to provide more affordable alternatives. “Our Essential line is products that everybody’s using every day, but they’re able to buy them, feel good about the purchase because they know it’s sustainable, it’s plastic free, and it’s affordable,” he says.

It’s been almost ten days since I last reported on a Google search ranking update. Well, I had to stop the streak and cover what I’ve seen over the last 24 hours or so. It appears that the volatility in ranking positions in Google search results is shifting more than the norm.
The third-party tracking tools are showing a large spike in volatility from the past day or so, at least most of them. And while the SEO community is dead tired of talking about volatility, espesially without seeing clicks from Google search, there is some chatter throughout the industry about movement.
As a reminder, the last time we reported on June 9th and then June 4th, May 29th, May 21st, May 16th, then May 12 and 13, May 8th (I didn’t cover May 1st, I probably should have) but then it was a couple of weeks, not since April 25th and then before that, 22nd and 23rd volatility and then around April 16th and then before that around April 9th. We have yet to have second official update in 2025, we had the March 2025 core update but no other official update in 2025 – yet.

It’s fun again. Google downgraded my news page on Friday. Suddenly, there’s no news traffic anymore. The ranking is rising, but normal searches bring just as many clicks as Bing, which is to say virtually none. But at least AI spam and articles that are actually advertisements are displayed as prominently as possible.
And as if that weren’t enough, the shop was also downgraded. The result: despite AdWords and high spending, there have been no sales via Google traffic since Friday.
Funnily enough, after several weeks of downhill traffic. Seems we are now increasing again. But are still -15% over last month. Granted this fall might not be 100% Google this time. I was meddling with the UI. So won’t play the blame game this time around.
Google has boosted Reddit so much while ignoring other sites that, eventually, people will just go directly to Reddit and bypass Google. Every search I do, Google either lists mostly Reddit links or suggests more results from Reddit. At this rate, Reddit will survive, and Google Search may become irrelevant. Just look at Reddit’s stock performance compared to Google’s lately.
A website affected by hcu that I observe, for 6 months has started publishing 50 news stories a day, previously it only dealt with guides on technology. The news appeared on Google news but nothing, the traffic remained low and now the site is stopped abandoned. He wanted to give it a try but he just wasted time and money. Better to cut with the past and devote yourself to social networks in my opinion, much less restrictive, a video is published on multiple platforms without problems, you can ask for money for sponsorships that no one says anything, AI content is not a problem for anyone. The social network could be the new opportunity, while continuing on websites only increases the frustration because the traffic of the past will no longer be there because of AIO and all the mess it has combined Google. Better to devote yourself to something else, even if it means starting over. At the moment my goal is 10000 followers
