Google’s March 2026 update brings deep Gemini integration to Workspace, allowing AI to build spreadsheets, draft docs, and search Drive using your personal data.
Google says Gemini has hit a new performance milestone, successfully handling complex, real-world spreadsheet tasks with a 70.48% success rate. This means its ability to manage data is getting remarkably close to that of a human expert.
You can now use natural language to build an entire sheet from scratch. For instance, if you tell Gemini to “organize my upcoming move,” it won’t just give you a blank template. It will actually scan your Gmail for utility contact info and pull moving quotes directly from your inbox to fill in the cells. There is also a new “Fill with Gemini” tool that predicts and fills in data by looking at your existing cells or pulling live info from Google Search.
Over in Google Docs, the “Help me create” feature has been supercharged to synthesize information from your entire Drive. If you need a marketing plan, you can ask Gemini to base it on a previous successful campaign. It will find the right files, structure the new document, and even mimic your brand’s specific tone.
Meanwhile, in Slides, the AI has moved past just generating images. It can now craft actual slide content and layouts that match your company’s branding. While the ability to generate a massive presentation from a single prompt is still “coming soon,” you can already build out individual slides using context from your own emails and files.
Perhaps the most useful change is in Google Drive. It is no longer just a place where files go to gather digital dust; it’s becoming an active knowledge base. With the “Ask Gemini in Drive” feature, you can select a handful of documents and ask a specific question across all of them. For example, you could ask for a summary of your tax obligations based on every receipt and email stored in your account, and Gemini will give you a cited answer right at the top of your search results.
These features are currently rolling out in beta for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. While most of the Docs and Sheets updates are available globally in English, the advanced Drive search features are starting with a US-only launch.
