Google has released a significant update for its Gemini chatbot, specifically targeting how users interact with multimedia files. The latest version of the Android application introduces the ability to import both images and videos directly into the platform, streamlining the process for advanced AI analysis.
The update, identified as version 1.0.869192867, expands the chatbot’s versatility. Previously, users were largely restricted to sharing screenshots or providing links via Google Drive. Now, the interface supports the direct upload of up to 10 photos in a single request.
While users may attempt to select more than 10 files, the system is currently designed to process only the first 10, discarding any additional attachments. This change facilitates more complex queries involving multiple visual data points simultaneously.
A key feature of this update is the improved integration with the Android ecosystem. Users can now share video content directly from third-party applications to Gemini using the system’s native share menu. This eliminates the multi-step process of saving a file and manually attaching it within the chatbot, representing a shift toward a more seamless user experience.
This feature is currently rolling out via the Google Play Store. It arrives alongside other ecosystem improvements, such as the implementation of the Nano Banana 2 model, which Google claims has significantly increased the speed of image generation within the chatbot. These updates seem to be a part of a broader strategy to refine even more the AI integration ahead of future OS iterations, like the upcoming Android 17, which is said to revolutionize mobile gaming controls.
