Android Headlines / Android Apps / Google Keep is finally getting a Material 3 Expressive makeover
Google Keep is finally catching up with Google’s other apps. Android’s new Material 3 Expressive makeover is rolling out to the note-taking app’s version 5.25.252.00.90. The update brings a revamped search bar, larger icons, and better spacing for image previews with notes.
Google usually updates its apps/services to make them look modern and add new features that users find useful. On the other hand, there is Google Keep, which rarely gets attention in terms of updates. Just over a month ago, Google Keep’s web version got text formatting, which it should’ve had years ago. Worry not, it seems Keep is finally getting some attention that it deserves. According to a new report, the Mountain View giant is quietly rolling out Android’s new Material 3 Expressive design language to Google Keep.
As you may know, Google has been gradually updating its apps with the Material 3 Expressive design language. The good news is that Google Keep is among many apps that are starting to receive this makeover. As reported by Android Authority, Google Keep version 5.25.252.00.90 has received the Material 3 Expressive design language.
The news outlet spotted some user reports on Telegram that hinted at the Material 3 Expressive makeover. So, what’s new? First of all, there’s a slightly taller but narrower search bar. Interestingly, that search bar doesn’t include the account switcher and hamburger menu buttons.
The Material 3 Expressive design makeover also adds the text inside the search bar of Google Keep. Previously, it stated “Search your notes,” but now, it says “Search Keep.” On top of that, the shape of the search filter chips has also changed.
Talking of visual changes, you’ll notice the toolbar featuring larger icons with rounded backgrounds. Besides, the image previews within notes in Keep now add margins to the left and right, along with rounded corners. Unfortunately, the rollout of Material 3 Expressive design in Keep is currently limited. However, we hope it will reach more users down the line.
