Samsung is now delivering software updates to its Galaxy devices faster than ever before. This is a big improvement for users who, in the past, had to wait months to get the latest Android updates. The reason behind this speed boost is a major change in how Samsung develops its software, as it is now moving to a new system called trunk-based development.
Thanks to this Trunk Stable model, Samsung was able to release One UI 8 based on Android 16, just one month after Google’s official release of Android 16. Even more impressively, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 phones are the first devices to launch with Android 16, even ahead of Google’s own Pixel phones.
Previously, Samsung used a branch-based development model, where each new Android version was built separately in a different branch of code. While this allowed teams to work on new features, it also created problems.
When it was time to combine the new branch with the main code, bugs known as merge conflicts would often appear. Fixing these took a lot of time and slowed down the update process.
According to information via Mishaal Rahman, Samsung has adopted the trunk-based model, a method that Google also uses to develop Android. In this model, all development happens in one stable version of the software. New features are added in the background using feature flags, which keep them hidden until they are fully ready.

Google has added a new feature to its Search widget on Android phones that makes it easier to use AI tools. The new feature, AI Mode, is now available to more users, including those using Samsung and other Android phones.
With the new app update, you’ll see a small circle icon appear next to the voice search (microphone) and Google Lens icons in the Google Search bar on your homescreen. When you tap this icon, it opens AI Mode, which lets you ask questions or type prompts to get smart answers from Google’s AI.
To enable this feature, just press and hold the Google Search bar widget on your phone’s homescreen. Then choose “Customize” and go to “Shortcuts.” You’ll see an option to add “AI Mode.” Once it’s added, you can quickly open AI Mode anytime, right from your homescreen.

AI Mode first appeared back in April for some people using the beta version of the Google app. Now, it’s rolling out more widely with version 16.28 of the Google app. This includes both beta users and those using the regular stable version.

If you’re not part of Google’s “Search Labs”, your app might still look a bit different. Instead of seeing the icon in the widget, you might find AI Mode as a small button under the search bar in the colorful section.

Google is planning some cool updates for its Search Live feature, which makes it feel more like a phone call. A recent APK teardown of the Google app has revealed some changes that could make the Search Live experience more interactive and familiar.
Introduced earlier this year, Search Live lets users have natural conversations with Google Search. But now, Google wants to take this experience a step further by making it feel even more like a phone call. New codes have been spotted in the Google app version 16.28.59.sa.arm64 beta by AssembleDebug.
In the upcoming update, the notification for Search Live will look different. Instead of simple text options like “End session” or “Turn off microphone,” new buttons will appear. These buttons will include a red “Hang up” button and a green “Turn off microphone” button, just like you’d see in a phone call.

Along with the new buttons, the notification will say “Ongoing call,” so users will know that their session with Search Live is still active, just like you would with a phone call. These changes will make the whole UI feel more like an actual conversation.

Magnify keyboard

Pin to taskbar
Android devices will receive a new “Pin to taskbar” feature for Desktop Mode. It’s easy to use and elevates the navigation for frequently used apps. You can pin your frequently used apps to the taskbar for access on the fly.

Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3 – Subtle tweaks
The latest Android 16 Beta also has some user interface changes. Security & privacy have abandoned the separation of tabs that felt weird to many. The Battery Health feature has made a comeback after its absence in the first Beta update.

Google is updating the built-in QR code scanner on Android phones. This new version is easier to use, especially with one hand. The update has started rolling out via the Play System update, and more people will see it soon.
In the old version, some important buttons like the flashlight and feedback were placed at the top of the screen. This made them hard to reach, especially when using your phone with just one hand.
