Google has announced the development of new AI Glasses, which are expected to go on sale in 2026, alongside updates to its Galaxy XR and Android XR platforms, during its “The Android Show: XR Edition” event. The new AI Glasses will come in two main types: screen-free and models with integrated displays.
Google stated that the company and its development team aim to make the Galaxy XR platform a more integral part of users’ daily lives, announcing three major new features for the platform:
PC Connect (Beta): This feature allows users to link Galaxy XR to a Windows PC, enabling them to project the desktop or application windows onto the Galaxy XR headset. This is ideal for users looking to play PC games on their Android XR device.
Travel Mode: This feature stabilises the display output to prevent users from experiencing motion sickness or dizziness while using the Galaxy XR glasses during travel.
Personal avatar (beta): This allows users to create a realistic digital persona (avatar) for video calls. The avatar can mimic real-time facial expressions, mouth movements, and eye blinks, making meetings on platforms like Zoom or Google Meet appear more natural, as if the user were not wearing a headset.
Regarding the new AI Glasses, Google announced that it is developing new forms of XR devices with partners. The AI Glasses developed in partnership with Samsung and fashion eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker—designed to be worn all day—will come in two varieties:
Screen-free AI Glasses: These glasses lack an integrated display. Their functionality focuses primarily on voice commands via a microphone and speakers, featuring a camera for use with Gemini.
Display AI Glasses: This model includes an integrated display capable of showing notifications, navigation maps, or real-time language translations.
Another partnership involves Wired XR Glasses developed with XREAL, which were previously showcased at Google I/O 2025. These glasses focus on being lightweight and portable, using a wired connection to a smartphone for processing power.
The AI Glasses are projected to be available for purchase in 2026, though a specific launch date for the Wired XR Glasses has not yet been announced.
