Google has introduced a range of exciting Android updates over the past few years. And it looks like things will get even better with the release of Android 17. While we’re seeing little bits of information here and there about the upcoming update, there are some changes that could end up making it a monster release.
Of course, the more minor parts of Android also matter when it comes to day-to-day use. That’s why we’re always happy to see Google continuing to make refinements on Android. With that said, that appears to be the case with Google Contacts, with the brand possibly looking to reshape the experience with relation to Calling Cards.
The change was discovered by the folks at Android Authority, with the news outlet doing a deep dive into the code of the Contacts app. While not available to the public, it does indicate that Google is working on something new, with a change in layout being discovered in Contacts version 4.73.27.871645217.
The new change will adjust the layout of the Contacts app in order to make it appear less cluttered. In its current form, we get a prominent Contacts photo that is located directly in the center of the Contacts page, along with the Calling Cards image as well. With both of these active, the Contacts page can look a bit cluttered.
The new change will reduce the size of the Contacts image, while also repositioning it, providing a much cleaner experience. This change also allows more data about the contact to be seen at a glance. However, it’s important to note that Google will continue to make the Contacts image the star of the show if the user does not have a Calling Card set, which makes perfect sense.
In addition to the above, it looks like Google is fleshing out how Calling Cards works, by also introducing a message when shared with someone, along with verbiage that comes up when someone is blocked. While this is all quite exciting, we don’t know when these new changes will make their debut.
As stated before, Android Authority has done some digging in the code in order to find these changes. That means that these could just be ideas being tested internally. With that said, we hope to see these changes come to light at some point, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
