Following last month’s big Gemini in Chrome update, AI Mode in Google’s desktop browser is getting its own upgrade in the address bar.
Previously, the integration in Chrome’s Omnibox was a button at the right that sent what you entered to AI Mode. (Tip: Right-click the address bar to unselect “Always Show AI Mode Shortcuts” to disable.)
This upgrade adds a ‘plus’ menu at the left, just like on google.com/ai.
Of note is “Most recent tabs” to share the contents of open pages with AI Mode, just like Gemini in Chrome supports. This can be used to ask questions, summarize sites, and more.
When you make a selection, the address bar expands into a prompt box with “Ask anything,” “Describe your image,” and “Research anything” hints. There’s a whimsical four-color glow around the field.
We’re seeing this expanded AI Mode integration in the Chrome address bar with version 145 of the desktop browser.
In other AI Mode updates, the website this week added “Canvas” as one of the available tools in the ‘plus’ menu.
