The latest Pixel Watch update is causing some hiccups, as users now report that their smartphone is seeing some weird behavior in Fitbit step counts and other stats.
Google started rolling out the March 2026 update for Pixel Watch a couple of weeks ago and, ever since, it’s been causing problems with health tracking stats in Fitbit. Early on it was clear there were some problems with skin temperature and SpO2 readings, which simply went missing for some following the update, but other stats appear to be affected too.
A number of Pixel Watch owners on Reddit have reported over the past week or so that there are issues with step counts in Fitbit, as well as some other stats. One sees the Pixel Watch overcounting steps, with the numbers being doubled in some cases both in steps as well as other stats such as mileage.
Another affected stat appears to be calories burnt, which is similarly inflated for affected users even with minimal actual activity.
The cause of this is unclear, but it’s a pretty big problem for anyone using their Pixel Watch to track activity. While smartwatches should never be used for the sake of getting accurate health data, they’re great for identifying trends and helping to monitor your progress as you try to increase activity.
Update 3/20: This appears to be, not a problem in the latest Pixel Watch update, but a server-side/app-side problem with Fitbit. We’re seeing this behavior on a Pixel Watch 4 on the December 2025 update, and the same experience is mirrored by many Pixel Watch owners in our comments section.
I am impacted, but not sure the Steps/Calories issues started with the March Watch update, rather, I noticed it much more recently with the latest Fitbit watch app rollout.
Google hasn’t acknowledged the problem just yet, but we’re hoping later software updates will provide a fix.
