Recent developments suggest that big software changes are underway for Fitbit. This includes a potential rebrand of the Fitbit app to Google Health in the near future. Coinciding with this development is news from the Fitbit and Google Home/Nest community forums about upcoming changes.
Banners on the Google Nest Community and Fitbit Community pages direct users to blog posts teasing the arrival of “big changes.” In their current form, both forums offer easy access to topics or FAQs related to a specific product.
However, in near-identical blog posts, the Google Home/Nest Community and the Fitbit Community have announced the arrival of “a sleek, modern design” to make the experience “better, smoother, faster, and more intuitive than ever before.” This revamp is set to happen sometime in May, with this announcement serving as a teaser (via 9to5Google).
Both announcements also confirm that users’ post history won’t be available in the updated community forum. Furthermore, text from the Fitbit Community’s announcement states that users will need to create a new account when the switch occurs next month.
To join us, you’ll need to create a fresh account. Please note that once we launch, the current platform will be retired along with all existing profile data as we make way for this new chapter.
This text doesn’t appear in the Google Home/Nest forum’s otherwise similarly worded announcement, which suggests members won’t need to go through some of these hurdles. As for the actual changes being introduced, both community forums will supposedly bring improvements to categories, explained simply as “Get where you need to in fewer clicks!”
Meanwhile, the Google Nest Community will also gain a “dedicated discussion space” to address concerns about Gemini for Google Home, which has seen a few improvements courtesy of recent updates.
Google is already working on a fix, so you don’t have to suffer for long
Without any visuals to go on, it’s hard to say if these updated community forums are an actual improvement or a regression from their current iterations. But the use of terms like “streamlined discussions” and “optimized organization” suggests a major revamp is on the cards for the two community forums.
As the folks at 9to5 point out, there’s no clarity on whether these forums will come under the Google Help (support.google.com) umbrella, which already hosts support pages for multiple Google products, or debut on a new platform. With no additional details available and no specific date mentioned for the upcoming transition, all we can do right now is wait.
