Updated plans have been filed for a permanent supportive housing development at 3720 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland’s Mosswood neighborhood. The proposal now aims to add a five-story structure to the corner lot, with a slightly reduced unit count. Humboldt County-based Danco Group is responsible for the application.
The previous iteration for 3720 Telegraph Avenue called for a six-story building with 46 units. The recent application calls for a five-story structure with 42 new units of permanent supportive housing. Apartment sizes will vary between studios and one bedrooms, with one two-bedroom residence designated for the on-site property manager.
Previous design for 3720 Telegraph Avenue, rendering by HKIT Architects
HKIT Architects is responsible for the design, though new illustrations have not been published. The ground floor will include a lobby, community room, residential services office space, and an outdoor landscaped courtyard.
The roughly quarter-acre property is located at the corner of Telegraph Avenue and West MacArthur Boulevard. Future residents will be just over a block away from the MacArthur BART Station.
Demolition will be required for the existing two-story motel. The estimated cost and timeline for construction have not been established.

Hope we can get the architect to dream up something slightly more inspiring than the previous design. I feel we could forego that “self storage” look for BMR (or any) housing and we’d be better off.
Given the amount of affordable housing need and cost to build each unit, it would be a better use of resources to leave the existing 22 units here alone and build 42 more units on one of the many nearby parcels that don’t have any housing currently – like the vacant BART-owned lot at 40th & MLK.
